Building Development Services
Building permits are required for all work on buildings to which the National Building Code of Canada applies, and all buildings over 625 square feet (56.08 square metres); including the construction of new buildings, and the alteration, renovation, reconstruction, demolition, removal and relocation of existing buildings.
Development permits are required for all work on buildings or structures under 625 square feet (56.08 square metres), accessory structures not intended for overnight accommodation, and for the location of mini-homes or mobile homes on non-permanent foundations.
Building and development permits are required to protect both the property owner and the surrounding community by ensuring that any proposed construction is in conformity with applicable regulations. Building permits are also required to ensure that construction meets National Building Code of Canada standards.
